Who we are

Gideon Hearth is provided by Gideon Solutions, LLC, of Charlotte, North Carolina (“Gideon”, “we”).

What Hearth is

Hearth is software that calculates household employment taxes and prepares figures and worksheets for the returns a household employer files. It does not file anything with the IRS, the Social Security Administration, the NC Department of Revenue or the NC Division of Employment Security, it does not move money, and it is not legal or tax advice for your situation. You remain responsible for deciding whether someone is your employee, for checking the figures, and for filing and paying on time. Gideon’s Enrolled Agent services are a separate engagement.

Your records

Your records are stored in your browser on your device. We do not receive them, so we cannot recover them: keep the backups Hearth offers you. See the privacy notice.

Price

The eligibility check and the payday calculator are free. The quarterly and year-end paperwork for a tax year costs $49 per household, for all of that household’s employees. If you ask within 30 days of buying, we refund it in full. If the price is a hardship, tell us and we will provide it free.

Uses that are never permitted

Hearth is licensed under the Gideon Christian Open Source License 1.0, and its prohibitions bind every use. You may not use Hearth, directly or indirectly, for or in support of:

• sexual exploitation, pornography, prostitution or sex trafficking
• human trafficking, forced labor, debt bondage or any form of modern slavery — including paying a household worker under coercion or holding their documents
• the illegal drug trade
• weapons, armaments or munitions
• military, paramilitary, mercenary or armed groups, or intelligence and surveillance organizations
• mass surveillance, population profiling or social scoring
• violence, coercion, intimidation or threats
• gambling or predatory financial schemes
• lending money at interest, including payroll advances that carry interest or fees

If you do, your right to use Hearth ends immediately.

No warranty

We work to keep every rule current and every calculation exact, and we test them. Even so, Hearth is provided as is, and Gideon’s liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the tax year concerned.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of North Carolina, and disputes go to the state or federal courts in North Carolina.
